Juventus chief Fabio Paratici explains why Cristiano Ronaldo deserved FIFA’s Best Men’s Player of the Year award more than Lionel Messi

Juventus’ sporting director believes Lionel Messi did not deserve to be named as FIFA’s Best Men’s Player for 2019 ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi won the award for the first time at the ceremony in Milan while Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk was second and Ronaldo in third place.
Fabio Paratici said the Juventus star deserved to take home the prize.

Paratici told Corriere dello Sport: “We are also disappointed over the award last night.
“While still respecting Messi, who is a great player, we think and thought that after last season, having won the Nations League, Serie A and the Italian Super Cup, having played a great Champions League, he (Ronaldo) deserved the award.”
Ronaldo, 34, did not attend the awards ceremony and instead chose to stay home.
In his first season at Juventus, he managed to score 28 goals in 43 games as the club won two domestic trophies.
LR

He also helped Portugal to win the inaugural Nations League title in the summer.
Barcelona forward Messi netted 51 times in 50 games and also won two domestic trophies in Spain as he picked up his 10th LaLiga title.
He also reached the Champions League semi-final, before Barcelona were knocked out by Liverpool, and the semi-final of the Copa America.
Ronaldo finished on 36 ranking points for the FIFA best men’s player award with Messi 10 ahead on 46 while Van Dijk had 38.
Lionel Messi was named as the best men’s player while Megan Rapinoe was named as the best women’s player
The award was voted for by captains and managers of international teams and selected media representatives.
Messi put Ronaldo in second place on his voting slip while the Juventus star omitted his Barcelona rival from his selections.
