Robert Garrison dead: Karate Kid star dies aged 59, after long health battle

Robert Garrison has died, aged 59.
The Karate Kid star passed away in hospital on Friday, following a long health battle.
His family confirmed the sad news, telling TMZ he ‘had been in the hospital for over a month’, and was ‘suffering with kidney and liver issues’.
The publication states his ‘organs shut down’.
They are currently planning his funeral arrangements.

Tributes poured in for the star on social media, with one fan commenting: ‘RIP Rob Garrison aka tommy from the karate kid #tommy #cobrakai.’
‘RIP Rob Garrison from @CobraKaiSeries & #KarateKid,’ another wrote. ‘So glad he got to return for season 2 of Cobra Kai and I thank him for being a part of something that has influenced my life for over 30 years #CobraKai.’
‘RIP Rob Garrison My heart goes out to his family and friends. So sorry for your loss,’ a Twitter user said.
While a follower added: ‘Rest in peace Rob Garrison. Cobra Kai never dies.’
Robert’s acting career began back in the 1970’s, with appearances in Starship Invasions, and Search and Destroy.
But his most notable role was playing Tommy in The Karate Kid, back in 1984.
He starred alongside Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita in the classic film, and was one of the members of the Cobra Kai dojo.

The late actor later reprised his role in the 1986 sequel.
After taking a long break from the limelight, Robert once again returned to the franchise earlier this year, in the form of YouTube series Cobra Kai.
Robert has been survived by brother Patrick, and sister-in-law Linda.
