Harry Kane warned over possible Tottenham exit by Martin Jol, who reveals he told Daniel Levy to keep Christian Eriksen

Harry Kane has to be aware ‘the grass is not greener’ after being told to quit Tottenham by former Manchester United and Leeds defender Rio Ferdinand.

Ferdinand was working for BT sport during their coverage of Spurs’ 7-2 Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich, and before the match he started discussing Kane’s future in north London.

He questioned if the England captain wants to win anything if he plans to remain with Tottenham for his entire career, and suggested a transfer would be best to guarantee silverware – such as the move he made from Elland Road to Man United in 2002.

Kane has never won a trophy during his football career despite reaching a League Cup and Champions League final

“It leads me to look at Harry Kane,” said Ferdinand. “What are you in the game for? Are you in the game to be a one club man or to win trophies?
Do Spurs look like a team capable of winning trophies? I don’t think so. They were a better team a couple of years ago.

“Leeds is a similar example; I was maybe a year or two younger but I was in a team at a Champions League semi-final, nearly won the league, but I thought I had a better chance elsewhere and I had the opportunity to go. I made a very quick decision to go and win trophies.
“Harry Kane is probably thinking about it and having those questions. They need answering soon. He’s 26 and you only have a small window of opportunity, they come and go very quickly.”
Martin Jol, however, has offered a warning to Kane, with the former Spurs boss telling talkSPORT that leaving for pastures new is not always the answer.
“I said yesterday that [Robert] Lewandowski is unbelievable and that he’d be the best no.9 in England,” Jol told Wednesday’s Alan Brazil sports breakfast  “And I think Kane is the same, and may be a little more versatile than Lewandowski.
“To influence him a bit I would say the grass is not greener on the other side.
“I think Harry Kane is on a very good contract, and he is a Spurs boy.
“But the only thing is they are not winning anything.”
